FabRocTM Technology

The FabRocTM technology that is behind exo2 heated clothing centers around a unique polymer based element that heats up when low voltage is passed through it.

It can be powered by rechargeable batteries, the accessory socket of a car or motorcycle or even regular household current. By regulating the voltage the heating element can be made to heat up to a pre-defined level, creating a uniform area of heat with no hot spots. Uniform distribution and dissipation of heat allows the heating element to be located in close proximity of the area to be heated to maximize heating and minimize heating response time.

The polymer which is at the heart of the heating component is loaded with conductive particles which enhance its conductivity properties and results in the element exhibiting a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) when heated.

PTC means that as the temperature of the polymer material increases its electrical resistance also increases in a non-linear fashion. Once the material reaches the desired temperature, it self regulates by drawing very little electrical current until it cools off. exo2 heated clothing is available with an optional universal controller which allows the user to select temperature settings.

How do the heating components work?

When FabRocTM is at room temperature the polymer has many conductive "chains" which exist in the material. When a low voltage is applied the electric current flows through the material which causes it to heat up. The material expands as it gets hotter, causing the conductive particles to move apart from each other. The resistance of the material increases and it conducts less current, thereby regulating the temperature.

Key Features of FabRocTM

Virtually indestructible. The rubber-like structure of FabRocTM makes it flexible enough to be configured into almost any shape. This quality makes it ideal for heated clothing and also makes it suitable for a broad range of other applications.

Unlike wire-based systems, FabRocTM continues to operate even if it is slit or torn. There is no possibility of a short circuit.

FabRocTM operates on a low voltage which means that it can be powered by rechargeable batteries. Lithium-Ion battery packs are light-weight (no heavier than a modern mobile phone) which makes them the ideal power source for heated clothing.

FabRocTM is:

  • Intrinsically safe. Due to the positive temperature coefficient properties (PTC) of FabRocTM it is impossible to overheat.
  • Inert. FabRocTM is resistant to most chemicals making it ideal for use in extreme environments.
  • Energy Efficient. FabRocTM converts over 98% of electrical energy into heat.
  • Competitively priced.

I would like to buy some for my mother, she just had heart surgery and her cirulation isn't back to normal yet and she is always cold is there heated clothing for indoor use that I could buy for her? How much would it run?
Thank You, dsm235@yahoo.com
