Heated Clothes Technology Overview
EXO² heated clothes are at the forefront of a new generation
of "smart" clothing and textiles. The technology behind EXO² heated clothes is FabRoc®
- a flexible, robust and safe heat generating material.
FabRoc® is a polymer based material that is lightweight,
waterproof, windproof, crushproof and stretchable. FabRoc® is chemically inert
making it completely safe for all types of heated clothes. There are no wires
in FabRoc® heated clothes so they can be safely used in any kind of environment
- even underwater!
EXO² heated clothes are powered with Lithium Ion batteries.
Our line of motorcycle heated clothes can be optionally powered with a
motorcycle battery. Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery technology is used effectively
in a wide range of modern electronic devices including cell phones, MP3
players, digital cameras, and portable computers. Li-Ion batteries have several
advantages over other types of rechargeable batteries, and are ideal for
cold-weather use since their life span decreases when exposed to heat.
EXO² heated clothes will never overheat. One of the unique
features of FabRoc® is that as it becomes warmer it draws less current. Once it
reaches its maximum temperature it stops drawing electricity, so it is a
completely self-regulating system.
FabRoc® is flexible, crunchable, stretchable, waterproof,
light-weight and durable. This makes it suitable for a wide range of
applications. It is currently used in such products as:
- heated
clothes for outdoor activities
- motorcycle
and snowmobile clothing
- heated
clothes for indoor use to reduce utility bills
- underwater
dry suits
- heated
gloves and boot liners
- industrial
battery heaters
- heated
blankets for pets
- heated
saddle and leg warmers for horse riding
- heated
ski boot liners
- patient
heating during surgery
The potential for FabRoc® extends even further. It can be
used as a building material to integrate heated flooring into houses. It can be
used for medical devices such as wrapping pads for knees, elbows and other
joints.
And it doesn't stop there - below is a selection of our
Research & Development projects:
- Thermoknitt
- A conductive polymeric yarn allowing our heat technology to be
"knitted-in" during glove or mitt manufacture as an all-in-one
process [patent applied for].
- Thermomesh
- The arrangement of Fabroc into a mesh which is treated, cut and shaped
to achieve the precise coverage and temperature levels required by the
customer or application [patent applied for].
