Heated Acrylic Hunting Socks
These socks are fitted with a pocket above the toe area that hold a heat
pack. The manufacturer recommends the "HotHands" brand of heat pack, although
any brand could be used, as long as it fits the pocket.
HotHands makes two types of foot warmers. One is designed for activities such
as hiking or skiing where the body is generating heat. These heat packs are
slightly smaller and produce less heat. The other type is for those who will be
sitting still and not generating much body heat.
The HotHands heat packs provide about 5 - 6 hours of heat, quite sufficient
for a day's activities.
How About the Socks?
The socks are comfortable, but your boots need extra space in the toes to
allow for the heat pack. Typical hiking boots with rounded toes usually provide
enough space for a comfortable fit.
Our test pair provided plenty of warmth even when the temperatures were below
freezing. We used them while skiing. This reviewer usually suffers from cold
toes - especially on those chilly chairlift rides, but these socks kept me
comfortable the whole day.
These socks were much better than the battery-powered socks we tested previously.
The battery-powered socks use a D-cell battery which is attached to the top cuff
of the sock. It was not comfortable and the wire came unattached a few times.
These heated acrylic hunting socks are comfortable, inexpensive, and provide
plenty of heat. Highly recommended!
