exo² StormRider Heated Vest
 StormRider Heated Vest
The one thing that puts a crimp on my riding pleasure is the
cold winter months. Here in Maine
we get a lot of below zero weather, and that can be pretty uncomfortable for
any stretch.
I've known about heated clothing for a while now, but the
cost always seemed too high. But I finally reached the point where I either
give up riding in the winter, or splurge on something to keep me warm.
I've already got heated grips and hand guards, so I figured
a heated vest would be the most useful piece of heated clothing. After doing a
bit of research, I decided to try the exo² StormRider
heated vest.
I got the vest from a company in Georgia called exo²
The Heat Inside. It's made from a material called FabRocTM, which is a
wireless fabric made of polymer. The material heats to a pre-set level, so
there's none of the problems of over-heating that has been reported with
traditional, wired heated clothing.
And according to the company website, since FabRocTM doesn't
have any wires, it's much safer than wired clothing.
The bottom deal is - it heats nicely with no hot spots,
keeping me feeling good the whole way.
Real World Tests
All the promotional literature sounds good, but what's it
like out on the road? To test out my new vest, I wore it on my regular local
routes, the coldest day being about 10º Fahrenheit. No matter what the weather,
the heat on my belly, back, and chest left me feeling like I was standing next
to a wood stove. It was hard to believe that I was really riding in winter
weather.
So now I'm completely sold on heated clothing. I might have
given up riding in the winter, so I guess the StormRider vest has added years
to my riding pleasure. The company makes other types of heated clothing too, from
gloves to jackets to inner soles. Judging from the quality of the StormRider
vest, I'd say you can't go wrong with any of these products.
